How Do I Treat My Heel Pain?

Heel pain is one of the most common foot complaints we hear from new patients . Heel pain can occur for a whole number of reasons, some common ones are:

  • Weight gain

  • Ill-fitting shoes

  • Running or jumping on hard surfaces

  • Different walking style

  • Sport injury

Luckily there are many options available that can help alleviate heel pain. Generally speaking, if heel pain lasts for more than 2 weeks it won’t go away on its own and will need some sort of intervention. Here are some ideas to get your feet back to feeling their best!

  • Try wearing your runners instead of thongs or heels.

  • Take a rest from strenuous activity for a week or two.

  • Ice your foot.

  • Stretch your calves daily.

  • Massage your feet; focus on the arch.

  • Try having your foot professionally strapped. We can help with this.

  • If strapping works well, a pair of custom orthotics may be your best bet to stopping your heel pain. At Step Smart Podiatry we can help with this!
